Sound review criteria are based on the products we test in-house and are never subject to bias, outside influence or sponsorship. Below are the main contributing factors we take into account when rating the products on this website:
- Sound Believability – Beyond the acoustics of a room you are listening to the music in, the extent of the speaker’s abilitity to reproduce music as if it were being played live is the predominant factor in our assessment. Our ratings are based mainly on how organic the reproduction of the music seems to the ear, as we personally test every product ourselves.
- Usability – The importance of being able to easily control the product in order to enjoy a seamless experience of the music
- Style – Although this factor may be down to personal taste, we realise the importance of visual aesthetic. Often the most neutral appearance is desirable, however a balance can be struck between invisibility and prominance that needs to reflect the application of the product. This form factor is still an important aspect of our reviews.
- Build Quality – Longevity, durability and quality of materials is an extremely important aspect of our reviews as we beleive a speaker should last a lifetime and can often improve with age. Amplifiers often degrade over time depending on the quality of the capacitors used in the circuitry. Higher quality materials are often the highest contributor to this aspect but will come with a much higher price tag, however the design of the product can also contribute to the overall build quality.
- Specification – Every manufacturer will publish a technical specification of their products, however this can often be difficult to understand or verify. Aswell as displaying these measurements we will give a breakdown of their meaning in each case and ellaborate on whether this is reflected in the final output of the product.
- Value for money – Having weighed up all the above we are able to assess the pricepoint of every product and give our opinion on whether value for money is present in each. Often proffessional quality product’s procepoint is alot higher through achieving the best possible results however this is not always viable for poeple who just want to be able to listen to music at home in the way it was intended to be heard.
Our content is aimed at those who are not so technically minded in terms of sound reproduction. If you are unfamiliar with any of the terminology we use, there is a glossary of terms available to understand some of the more technical language we may need to use in order to expand on the features of of the products we review.
